Dealing with novelty....

New bike is serious business.

It's faster and easier getting around, but I'm not getting in any extra miles yet.... but it's only February.

Measured size of Wayne (I'm trying out names) is 4cm smaller than Ka-Zam Gigantor.... I have to compare other measurements, but how I'm riding is massively different. I used to ride with cruiser bars, which were lovely (though days of distance would sometimes put painful pressure on my wrists); now I'm almost exclusively in the drops. I'm inching the seatpost ever higher; it took a few days to get used to the cleats. And shifting is still taking some time; every so often I've realized I've stopped at a light or crossing in high gear.....

And then there's my brakes. They're powerful! I feel like a mouse riding on the back of a dragon.

My panniers are nearly always on. Love keeping that weight off my back, but now I need to find a different way to mount the light that lived on my backpack. I still want to work on some front cargo options and plan on switching to Nitto Touring/Grand Randonneur bars and a shorter stem when I can.

Making any big change will have an adjustment period and growing pains.... bear with it, tweak what you can, and remember to save a few more pennies for those unplanned expenses later on. Unfortunately I have some other things to take care of at the moment, so bike stuff is lower on the list again... but it'll only be a couple of months before it's at the top again and that gives me time to research and plan.

  1. "A mouse on the back of a dragon." lmfao, Love it! New bike must be a lot different from K.Z.G. that you've been used to for years, and so it seems you're getting comfortable with it very quickly!
